About Back Pain and Lower Back Pain

Low Back Pain is probably the most common of all back pains and causes more workdays lost than any other type. This should not be the case as if it is appropriately treated it should only last a few days.

The most common cause of low back pain is misalignment of the Facet Joints of the L5/S1 vertebrae.

These are the lowest joints of the spine and as such they have to withstand the greatest amount of strain.  When the strain is greater than the muscles of the facet joints can absorb the muscles are damaged and the joint is forced beyond its normal range of movement.

The body always tries to heal itself. In the case of misalignment of facet joints other muscles in the area contract to try to pull the joints back to within their normal range of movement
If these muscles are unable to get the joint back there will be a build up of lactic acid in them. In a continuously contracted muscle the lactic acid build up increases and the muscle becomes hard and painful as the blood flow through it  becomes more and more restricted. It is what I call “congestion” in the muscle.

Misalignment of the lumbar vertebrae is usually the cause of many other symptoms / disorders in the lower part of the body.

Etc can all be caused by misalignment in the lower back. These problems usually occur because the misalignments put pressure on the nerve roots which branch out between the vertebrae from the spinal cord.

This pressure can cause a pain where the nerve is going to as in Sciatica, Groin or Knee pain. It also always causes interference to the free flow of communications to and from the brain and that leads to many other disorders in the body as the brain is not in full control of the body\’s functions.

I work to free up or unstick the facet joints to allow them to return to within their normal range of movement.

When the misalignment is corrected the pressure is removed from the nerve roots and proper communication is restored, the muscles can relax and the blood flowing through them flushes out the lactic acid which reduces the soreness immediately.

I use Spinology, Deep Muscle Massage, CranioSacral Therapy and Scenar Therapy to help me achieve the best possible results for my clients.

The main philosophy of Spinology is to have your spine checked regularly as part of your health care program. It really does make sense to correct the misalignments before they cause you problems.  I believe once a month would be enough for most people.
