About the Condition
Restless legs are caused by congestion in the muscles of the hips and buttocks. This congestion occurs when the vertebrae in the lower back go out of their correct alignment at the facet joints.
The facet joints control the mobility of the spinal bones, (vertebrae,) and when a force goes into them that is greater than the muscles of the joint can absorb the vertebra is forced out of its correct alignment with the one above or below it.
On some occasions there will be some back pain but it may not occur until some time after the misalignment occurs. The body always tries to heal itself so muscles contract to pull the vertebrae back into their correct alignment. If the vertebrae do not come back the muscles stay contracted creating a build-up of lactic acid in the constantly contracted muscles. That is what I call congestion in the muscles. The congestion interferes with the free flow of nerve energy and blood to and from the legs creating what is called Restless Legs or Restless Leg Syndrome.
I use deep muscle massage CranioSacral Therapy, Scenar Therapy and Spinology to free up the facet joints and correct the misalignment in the spine.
The pressure comes off the nerves, the muscles can relax and the lactic acid congestion is flushed out of them by the blood flowing through them.
The restless legs start to feel better immediately but it usually takes a few sessions for them to heal fully. For further information go to my Back Pain page.
